Due to computer problems, I am sorry to say we have no photos for the 2010 Alaska Open held last March in Casa Grande, Arizona, so we'll just go on to the next tournament.
September 2010 marked the last year for tournament co-chairs, Laura Beason and Dee Boster. The Eagle Crest Golf Resort in Redmond, OR was once again the venue for this tournament, delivering great golfing weather with the added excitement one evening of a tremendous thunder and lightening show. The next morning it had cleared off for great golfing.
Monday afternoon, September 13th, golfers checked in at the registration table and were treated to a welcome reception on the patio of the restaurant/bar area. Tuesday we all gathered for a best-ball scramble, teams being made up of varying handicaps. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we played the three different courses at the resort: the Challenge Course, Ridge Course and Resort Course. Wednesday evening we were served a wonderful BBQ in an outdoor pavilion.
Friday evening was the awards banquet where we were served a delicious meal, awards were awarded for Men's and Women's Low Gross, and 3 places in each division for low net scores. Prizes were also awarded for the Closest to the Pin and Straightest Drive for Men and Women for each day of play. Jim Arnoldt won the drawing and had a chance at a $10,000 putt. It was close, but no cigar! Last year Cindy Schlaffman had a hole-in-one, and this year Ted Whitbeck had a hole-in-one! Who will it be next year??

Thank you very much, Laura and Dee, for the great job you have done on these tournaments. You have made it look easy, but we all know that there is so much more to putting on a tournament than what we see when we are there. Thanks, Laura, for finding this wonderful resort that we all enjoy so much.
This year we paid a memorial tribute to the golfing friends we lost this year: Pat Stone Spencer (1935 - 2010); Roger Tersteeg (1942 - 2010) and Ronald W. Nielsen (1947 - 2010).
Hope to see you all at the next tournament in Casa Grande, AZ March 15-18, 2011 with check-in and registration on Monday, 3/14.

Golf clubs are gaining in popularity over conventional steel finish golf clubs. In graphite shaft golf clubs or a long rod that connects the golf club head with the handle is made of steel vs. graphite rods used in normal golf clubs. The essence of using graphite shafts in golf clubs is very simple. The lighter golf club is easier to swing and the best of swing, the greater the distance traveled by the original golf balls. Many critics consider the distance traveled in the balance as an important factor in the game and therefore attaches great importance to improving the golf swing.
